Nick Kyrgios expresses gratitude towards Andy Murray for his valuable support in overcoming mental health challenges.
The Australian athlete opened up in June about how he “genuinely contemplated” suicide and had to spend time in a psychiatric hospital following his loss at Wimbledon in 2019, as reported by the BBC.
Kyrgios also shared about getting a sleeve tattoo on his right arm to conceal evidence of self-harm, which Murray noticed and offered guidance, however, he initially neglected to heed the advice.
Three-time Grand Slam champion Murray’s concern for Kyrgios drove him to take action upon spotting marks on Kyrgios’ arm during a practice session, according to the Times.
Kyrgios reflected on Murray’s support, stating, “Andy was always a big supporter of me. As soon as I came on the tour, he kind of saw a work in progress and took me under his wing.”
In a lengthy Instagram post, Kyrgios also addressed his struggles and journey to a much better place. He emphasized how his own experiences led him to become a beacon for others facing mental health issues and genuine challenges.
