Honda star Naoki Yamamoto finally leaves hospital

Yamamoto’s 2023 season came to an abrupt end after a collision with Teppei Natori’s Kondo Racing Nissan GT300 car at Sugo. Initially cleared of any serious injury, further medical examination revealed an atlantoaxial subluxation and damaged spinal cord, forcing him to miss the final races of the season. However, in a recent update on his Instagram, Yamamoto shared that he has been discharged from the hospital after a successful surgery, expressing gratitude to the medical team, family, and fans for their support.

The absence of Yamamoto from the Team Kunimitsu Honda squad paved the way for Iori Kimura to step in for the final rounds, achieving a best finish of ninth alongside Tadasuke Makino. With hopes high for his recovery, there is optimism that the 35-year-old may be back in action for the start of the 2024 season, likely partnering with Makino once again.

While Yamamoto’s return to Team Kunimitsu seems promising, uncertainty looms over his Super Formula team Nakajima Racing, as the line-up for the upcoming season remains undecided.
