Highly-Touted Basketball Sensation Mikey Williams Strikes Plea Bargain, Expected to Avoid Jail

Basketball sensation Mikey Williams might avoid jail time for the shooting incident at his California home earlier this year.

Williams recently pleaded guilty to a single felony count of making a criminal threat, as per San Diego County District Attorney’s Office spokesman Steve Walker. The plea deal mandates 80 hours of community service, cognitive behavior therapy, gun safety, and anger management classes for Williams.

If Williams fulfills these requirements without any new legal issues, the felony charge will be reduced to a misdemeanor. Additionally, Williams will be prohibited from possessing a firearm and will have a 10-year gun restriction placed on his record upon sentencing on August 12.

Following his arrest on April 13 for a late-night incident, Williams faced nine felony charges that could have resulted in a 30-year prison sentence. Despite this, Arash Hashemi, a Los Angeles criminal defense attorney, believes Williams received a favorable plea deal.

At 19 years old, Williams, a University of Memphis basketball signee, faces uncertainty regarding his playing status for the Tigers. He was an influential figure known for his social media presence and endorsement deals before his arrest.

As Williams’ legal saga unfolds, his future as a prominent basketball player remains unclear.

“All glory to God,” Williams said outside the courthouse in a video posted by Overtime on social media. “I’m just happy I made it out this situation. I’m just excited to get back to the (basketball) court.”
