Nick Resavy, a former Syracuse player and Ardsley coach, has found himself in a unique role with the New York Liberty women’s basketball team. While he is mostly known for coaching at the youth and high school level, Resavy now spends his time driving on and guarding the Liberty players during their home practices. It all started with a phone call from a friend, and Resavy didn’t hesitate to take on this “cool opportunity.” The experience has been challenging, as he often finds himself matched up against the talented Breanna Stewart, whom he considers one of the best women’s basketball players of all time. Despite the difficulty, Resavy is grateful for the chance to learn from the pros and bring that knowledge back to the young players he coaches. His journey to this point has been filled with unexpected twists and turns, but Resavy wouldn’t have it any other way. He left a more glamorous lifestyle to make a difference in players’ lives, and he continues to do so through basketball. As the Liberty compete in the WNBA Finals, Resavy remains optimistic and confident in the team’s abilities. Although he won’t be in the stands cheering them on, he’ll be watching the games surrounded by his young players.
