Here’s the 2023 Herald-Times All-Area boys’ tennis team

Connor O’Guinn’s exceptional journey in tennis has taken him farther than he ever anticipated. O’Guinn was awarded the prestigious Herald-Times Player of the Year title, bringing his high school tennis career to a triumphant close. His coach, Ken Hydinger, firmly believes that O’Guinn’s greatest achievements are yet to come, but that it will require continued dedication to the sport.

O’Guinn’s remarkable achievements this season, where he earned Bloomington North’s No. 1 singles position, obtaining an undefeated status in sectional play and securing a regional title, culminated in an opportunity to compete in the state finals’ quarterfinals. Hydinger observed significant improvements in all aspects of O’Guinn’s game, including enhanced ground strokes, improved volleys, and an overall refined and more aggressive playing style.

O’Guinn’s remarkable development, coupled with his successive wins, contributed to a newfound confidence and adaptability in the game. He possessed the ability to analyze his opponent’s strengths and weaknesses, resulting in a formidable and intense postseason run. Despite the exceptional achievements, O’Guinn remains grounded and coachable, with a deeply-rooted determination to continually improve.
