Group of Muslim countries to push for Gaza ceasefire -Turkish source

A coalition of senior officials from various Muslim countries is embarking on a diplomatic mission to the United Nations Security Council’s five permanent members to advocate for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. This newly formed group, which emerged from a summit of the Arab League and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, is composed of foreign ministers and representatives from Turkey, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, the Palestinian Authority, and the OIC Secretary General.

According to a Turkish foreign ministry source, the group has already initiated discussions with the permanent U.N. Security Council members and is scheduled to visit other countries in the coming days. The primary objective of this contact group is to achieve a prompt ceasefire in Gaza and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the area.

In addition to advocating for the immediate cessation of hostilities, the coalition aims to contribute to the establishment of a two-state solution that ensures the safety, stability, and prosperity of Palestinians within internationally recognized parameters.

The recent deadly raid by the Palestinian militant group Hamas instigated a military campaign by Israel, resulting in the deaths of thousands of Palestinians. As the group continues its diplomatic efforts, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is expected to join the upcoming legs of the tour after President Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Algeria.

The coalition plans to meet with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and French President Emmanuel Macron during scheduled visits to Britain and France. Additionally, Turkish media reports indicate that the group will visit France and Britain on Wednesday.

Moreover, a group of 87 Turks, Turkish Cypriots, and their relatives arrived in Egypt from Gaza on Monday, with plans to fly to Istanbul. Furthermore, nearly 200 evacuees from Gaza, including patients in need of medical care and their companions, arrived in Turkey on Monday.

Overall, the coalition seeks to leverage diplomatic and humanitarian means to end the conflict in Gaza and halt Israeli attacks on the enclave through international platforms and collaborations with like-minded countries.
