Greg Olsen Expresses Interest in Panthers’ Head Coaching Position, New Report Reveals

After the firing of Frank Reich, the Colts appointed former player Jeff Saturday as the interim head coach but did not retain him for the full-time position. However, in Carolina, there is interest from former Panthers player and current Fox color analyst, Greg Olsen, to replace Reich as the full-time coach, according to The Athletic.

The potential move would be more surprising than the Colts’ decision to bring in Saturday as an interim coach. Olsen, like Saturday, lacks coaching experience at the college or NFL level, although he has coached his son’s Pop Warner team.

Olsen transitioned to the broadcast booth after retiring in 2021 and worked his way up. However, it is expected that Tom Brady will replace Olsen on Fox’s top NFL broadcast team.

If the Panthers were to approach him, they would likely face backlash similar to the Colts with Saturday and the Texans in interviewing Josh McCown for their head coaching job. McCown was recently fired as the Panthers’ quarterbacks coach, marking his first coaching job in the NFL.

Despite his father’s background as a longtime high school coach in New Jersey, Olsen remains a longshot for an interview due to the lack of appeal of the coaching job within the ranks. The Panthers have had six head coaches during owner David Tepper’s six seasons, with a record of 30-63, second only to the Jets for the worst record in that time.
