Giants QB Daniel Jones reportedly cleared for contact, set to return Week 9 vs. Raiders

Quarterback Daniel Jones set to make return for New York Giants against Las Vegas Raiders in Week 9, says Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

After being sidelined since Week 5 due to a neck injury sustained during a game against the Miami Dolphins, Jones has received clearance for contact and is on track to rejoin the team. Throughout his recovery, he has shown steady progress, participating in practice and gradually increasing his level of activity.

This timing couldn’t be more critical for the Giants. Jones’ backup, Tyrod Taylor, who has been starting in his absence, recently suffered rib injuries during their game against the New York Jets and had to be hospitalized for further assessment. Consequently, rookie Tommy DeVito took over in the second half, but the Giants ultimately lost to the Jets.

While some may find the timing suspicious, with ESPN’s Adam Schefter previously reporting a Week 10 return, the Giants understand the significance of neck injuries, especially considering Jones’ previous experience with one that prematurely ended his 2021 season. Therefore, their cautious approach is to be expected.

With just six days to prepare, Jones will need to quickly regain his rhythm. The Giants’ matchup against the Raiders is scheduled for Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
