The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal later reported that Kapler’s focus will primarily be on player development, although he will be involved in all areas of the Marlins’ baseball operations.
Kapler, who spent four seasons as the San Francisco Giants manager, was fired in September after achieving a 295-248 record and leading the team to one playoff appearance, followed by a 78-81 performance with the team in 2023.
Prior to joining the Giants, Kapler had a 12-year MLB career with six different teams. After retiring in 2010, he became the manager for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2018, before joining the Giants.
In addition, Kapler was reportedly a candidate for the baseball operations role with the Boston Red Sox, a team he played for over four seasons. However, the Red Sox ultimately hired Craig Breslow, another former player.
