Andre Iguodala, the former Warriors forward, has been appointed as the National Basketball Players Association’s acting executive director on Thursday, making significant strides in his career.
After a 19-year playing career and spending over a decade as a member of the union’s executive committee, Iguodala expressed his honor and excitement in taking on the role to serve the players, who he believes are the heart and soul of the NBA.
“I am honored to take on this role and serve the players, who are the heart and soul of the NBA,” Iguodala said. “I’m presented with a unique opportunity to take all that I’ve learned as a player over the course of my 19-year career and apply it to creating an even stronger and more influential union for current and future generations of players. I am thrilled to work alongside our extremely committed Executive Committee to lead the brotherhood through its next stage of advancement and development.”
Having spent eight of his final 10 seasons with the Warriors, where he achieved four NBA championships and was named 2015 Finals MVP, Iguodala has certainly left his mark on the league. His former teammate Steph Curry even gave him a shout-out on social media in response to the news.
Moreover, being drafted No. 9 overall in the 2004 draft by the Philadelphia 76ers and then making waves with the Denver Nuggets, Iguodala’s career has been nothing short of impressive.
Now, at 39 years old, Iguodala is taking over the role previously held by Tamika Tremaglio, who stepped down after holding the position since January 2021. This marks an exciting proposition for the NBPA, according to CJ McCollum, NBPA president.
