Mark Davis, owner of the Raiders, faces significant decisions regarding the team’s next General Manager and Head Coach, prompting interest in who will advise him during the hiring process.
Two years ago, Davis sought the guidance of 82-year-old Ken Herock when the team hired Josh McDaniels, a decision that ultimately proved unsuccessful.
According to former Raiders CEO Amy Trask, Davis is still receiving advice from Herock, but there are also new voices contributing to the decision-making process this time around.
Trask mentioned that many of Davis’ previous in-house advisors are no longer with the team, and that he now relies on outside advisors such as Jim Gray, Ron Wolf, and Tom Brady-connected among others.
One of the puzzling aspects is figuring out who Davis will truly listen to regarding the hiring decisions.
Despite Herock’s continued involvement, his role in the team’s latest coaching search is expected to be different due to past unsuccessful hiring decisions and his reported lack of inquiry into McDaniels’ previous coaching failures.
Furthermore, there are questions about whether sportscaster Jim Gray is capable of understanding the intricacies of building a football team, and whether Tom Brady’s influence has had a negative impact on previous decisions.
Sports Illustrated insider Albert Breer listed five potential candidates for the Raiders’ next head coach, some of whom are known for following the “Patriot Way.”
Considering the past hiring disappointments, some are questioning whether the Raiders should avoid bringing another former Patriots coach onto the team.
