Formal complaint lodged against Ons Jabeur amid support for Palestinians

World No.7, Ons Jabeur, is currently facing backlash and a formal complaint for her support of Palestinians during the Israel-Palestine conflict.

The conflict between Israel and Palestine has a long history, with recent attacks by Palestinian militants, Hamas, resulting in casualties and hostage situations. Public opinion on the conflict remains divided.

Jabeur expressed her opinion on the matter, stating that violence will never lead to peace and advocating for a peaceful resolution for Palestine. These statements did not sit well with Israeli officials.

In her own words, Jabeur said, “The suffering of Palestinians over the last 75 years is unimaginable. Innocent civilians are experiencing unimaginable pain, regardless of their religion or origin. Violence will not bring peace. I cannot support violence, but I also cannot support the seizure of land.”

Understanding the context is crucial. Ignoring recent history is irresponsible and will not lead to peace. Peace is what we all strive for and deserve. Let’s stop the violence and work towards a free Palestine. #FreePalestine,” she added.

Letter Sent Calling for Sanctions on Jabeur

The Israel Tennis Association (ITA) has written a letter to the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) via the International Tennis Federation (ITF), accusing Jabeur of supporting a “murderous terrorist organization” and calling for action to be taken against the Tunisian tennis star.

The statement from ITA reads, “This tennis player is promoting and supporting a terrorist organization responsible for murder. We are relieved that she represents the minority, unlike the rational athletes around the world. As she is affiliated with the WTA, it is the responsibility of the organization to address this matter. We are waiting to see what action will be taken against her,”
