FHSAA football playoff brackets to be released Sunday

The Florida High School Athletic Association will release its final football playoff power rankings and postseason brackets on Sunday at 10 a.m. The announcement will be made during a live broadcast on the association’s YouTube channel.

Friday’s Week 11 schedule is crucial for the regional seeding process, especially for Orlando area teams who are vying for home-field advantage in the later rounds of the playoffs.

Currently, Lake Mary (8-1) holds the top seed in Class 4 Metro Region 1, narrowly ahead of Sanford Seminole (8-2). Recent rankings indicate a close margin of 17.13 to 17.02 for these two teams.

Seminole clinched the District 2 title by defeating Lake Mary 29-28 in their last match. Lake Mary will wrap up their regular season by facing unbeaten Daytona Beach Mainland (9-0) on Friday.

Winter Park (8-0, 10.81), Apopka (6-3, 10.80), and Jacksonville Mandarin (6-2, 10.60) are in a tight race for the third seed in the region. The strength-of-schedule could be a determining factor in the final rankings. Winter Park will play against Lake Brantley (1-8), Apopka against Wekiva (4-5), and Mandarin against St. Johns Bartram Trail (5-4).

In 4S Region 3, Orange City University (8-1, 15.49) slipped to the second spot behind Port St. Lucie Treasure Coast (7-2, 15.60). DeLand (7-2, 14.01) moved up to the third position. DeLand secured consecutive district titles with a 14-3 victory over University on October 20.

In 3M Region 1, Edgewater (9-1, 17.45) has a firm grip on the top seed. Oviedo (7-2, 9.15) is likely to host Jones (6-3, 9.12) as a district champion in the upcoming week.

Wekiva (4-5, 3.32) will need a victory and a loss by Tampa Wharton (5-4, 5.12) against Hillsborough (6-3) to have a chance at qualifying for the 3M-1 playoffs. Jacksonville First Coast (5-4, 4.40) is guaranteed no worse than the eighth seed as a district champion.

The situation is similar in 3S Region 2, where Tavares (5-4, 3.00) is currently trailing New Port Richey Gulf (5-4, 3.62) for the seventh spot. Tavares will play against Clermont East Ridge (4-5) and Gulf will face Brooksville Nature Tech Coast (7-2).

In 4M Region 2, district champion Olympia (7-2, 6.97) holds the third position and Dr. Phillips (6-3, 6.66) is ranked fourth. Both teams have the potential to climb further in the rankings with wins this week. Olympia will play against Groveland South Lake (2-7) and Dr. Phillips will face Jones.

For large classifications, the postseason qualification is based on FHSAA power rankings, with four district champions and four at-large teams per region advancing. In Class 1M, two district champions and two additional at-large teams per region move forward.

Here are the current rankings for area teams and other locally interesting teams in each region:
