While it may seem that no gaps need filling right now, the need for innings persists. Talk has focused on shaping the rest of the roster, particularly the outfield. The possibilities for transactions at the sport’s annual Winter Meetings in Nashville, Tenn., are expected to ignite intrigue.

Reports indicate that the Phillies have sought creative solutions to address their outfield needs and have shown interest in versatile players capable of playing center field. Free agent options include Kiké Hernández, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Whit Merrifield, and Nick Senzel, along with more traditional righty-hitting outfielders such as Harrison Bader, Michael A. Taylor, and Adam Duvall.

The Phillies have high hopes for young outfielders Brandon Marsh and Johan Rojas, both of whom they believe have the potential to thrive at the major league level. However, they are careful not to overcommit to either player, preferring instead to keep their options open.

With the modern focus on fourth outfielders, the Phillies aim to build a deeper outfield unit. They are considering expanding the roles of Marsh and Rojas, but recognize the need for alternatives. Discussions are ongoing regarding external options for center field to provide new opportunities for Rojas if necessary.

After finding success in 2023, the Phillies foresee Marsh becoming a regular starting outfielder, while Rojas shows promise for the future. However, they are keen to ensure that both players continue to develop and improve.
