ST. THOMAS, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS – The Wolfpack women’s basketball team continued their unbeaten streak, improving to 6-0 with a resounding victory at the Paradise Jam tournament. The 10th-ranked NC State squad dominated with a 79-45 win over Cincinnati (2-3) on Friday afternoon.
Madison Hayes once again led the charge with 16 points and 12 rebounds, securing her second career double-double and her first of the 2023-24 season. The senior guard showcased her skills by knocking down 3-of-5 three-pointers, tying her career-high in rebounds.
Aziaha James (13 points), Zoe Brooks (12 points), Laci Steele (11 points), River Baldwin (10 points), and Mallory Collier (10 points) also contributed double-digit scores. This marked the first time this season that multiple freshmen tallied 10+ points in a game, with Collier and Steele achieving new season highs in scoring.
NC State’s strong performance led to multiple scoring options, with six players reaching double figures, a season-high for the team. The Pack’s balanced attack overwhelmed Cincinnati throughout the game.
The Wolfpack opened the game with a 9-0 run, establishing a 19-10 lead in the first quarter. They continued to control the game, limiting their opponents to just eight points in the second quarter and maintaining a 28-point lead at halftime.
NC State demonstrated their defensive prowess, holding Cincinnati to 24.2 percent shooting while shooting 43.8 percent themselves. They also dominated in the paint, outscoring the Bearcats 34-10, and controlled the boards with a double-digit rebounding margin.
The Wolfpack’s next challenge will be a top-10 matchup against No. 3 Colorado on Saturday afternoon. The game is set for 1 p.m. EST (2 p.m. local time) and will be streamed on ESPN+.
