Jorge Masvidal is eyeing a boxing match in 2024.
Masvidal retired from MMA after suffering a unanimous decision loss to Gilbert Burns at UFC 287 in April. Since then, he has enjoyed his role as a promoter for multiple organizations, including Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA.
However, it seems that “Gamebred” already has the urge to compete, but this time in the boxing ring. He recently hinted at having something lined up for the near future.
“It’s a yes,” Masvidal told ESPN. “And my yes is yes and my no is no, and I’m telling you that’s a yes. I’ll tell you this much: It’s not happening this year. No names right now, but I can tell you it’s happening early next year, and I can tell you somebody is going to get killed.”
Masvidal has previously competed in the boxing ring once professionally, securing a majority decision win in 2015. As a passionate boxing fan, especially of Roberto Duran, Masvidal was deeply disappointed with the recent exhibition bout between Logan Paul and Dillon Danis at Misfits Boxing: The PRIME Card. The fight ended with Paul winning by disqualification after Danis attempted a takedown, leading to chaos and a brawl involving security personnel.
“Just because it has the label of boxing, I expect so much more,” Masvidal expressed. “I expect these fighters to be in better shape, more aggressive, and carry themselves with the utmost respect for the sport, which I didn’t see. I couldn’t even watch the fight, man. It was just awful. It’s a disrespect to boxing. I’m kind of upset that Logan didn’t knock him (Danis) out. I really wanted Logan to knock him out. So I’m a little mad at Logan. I hope he sends me my money back, you know? Not that I paid for it, but still.”
