As the regular season winds down, college football teams are looking ahead to the post-season and the upcoming bowl games. Expansion of the College Football Playoffs from four teams to 12 teams after this season is expected to bring significant changes to the perception and structure of bowl games, marking a potential shift in the traditional bowl season as we know it.
For the Alabama Crimson Tide, the path to the post-season remains uncertain. With only three games remaining in the regular season, Alabama has a record of 8-1, securing multiple wins against ranked opponents such as LSU, Ole Miss, and Tennessee. Their performance in the final three regular season games and the SEC Championship Game against Georgia will ultimately determine their fate. A win in these games would likely secure their spot in the playoffs, while any losses would result in exclusion. Alabama’s continued improvement throughout the season has transformed them from the team that suffered a home loss to Texas on Sept. 9.
However, projections from ESPN for all 43 bowl games present varying outcomes. Mark Schlabach predicts a potential matchup between Alabama and Penn State in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, while Kyle Bonagura projects an alternative scenario with Louisville in the Capital One Orange Bowl. Despite the uncertainties, Alabama’s impressive performances against Tennessee and LSU have fueled confidence in their potential to emerge as the top team in the country. A pivotal showdown with Georgia in the SEC Championship game awaits, and the outcome could shape the rest of their season.
