Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert achieved a career-long 49-yard catch in last Sunday’s game against the Rams.
This impressive play, however, comes with a cost.
Goedert has been fined $11,473 by the NFL for unnecessary roughness during that 49-yard play, which occurred at the 9:50 mark of the third quarter in the Eagles’ 23-14 victory over the Rams at SoFi Stadium.
The fine is likely a result of Goedert’s aggressive stiff-arm at the end of the run after the catch.
Last week’s game against the Rams marked a breakout performance for Goedert, 28. He caught 8 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown. The 49-yard catch in the third quarter was the longest of his career, surpassing his previous record of 45 yards from the 2021 season.
This season, Goedert has accumulated 21 catches for 205 yards and a touchdown. Although he had been relatively quiet in the passing game leading up to Week 5, it’s worth noting that Goedert’s impact goes beyond catching the ball. He is well-regarded as an excellent blocking tight end, a fact that Eagles coach Nick Sirianni often emphasizes.
In addition to Goedert’s fine, safety Reed Blankenship was also fined $4,843 by the NFL for unnecessary roughness due to a horse collar tackle in the third quarter. The penalty was called on the field.
