Everyone makes foolish mistakes in life. However, as an NFL head coach, you can only make them for so long before it catches up to you.

The remarkable thing about Nick Sirianni is his ability to avoid making foolish mistakes. He’s not flawless, but in his young career, none of his peers have done a better job of not sabotaging their own team. This remains evident, even when he wasn’t directly coaching.

-Sean McDermott, praised for years for the culture he built in Buffalo, dismissed his offensive coordinator after costly defensive lapses. There’s nowhere left for him to shift the blame. Truly admire what Sean McDermott is building in Buffalo.

-Kyle Shanahan put Christian McCaffrey back into the game to chase a personal touchdown record, despite being ahead 34-3, risking unnecessary injury for a player who is already at risk.

-Up 42-7 against the hapless Giants, Mike McCarthy benched Dak Prescott in the 4th quarter but kept playing CeeDee Lamb, the only standout skill position player this year.

-Coaching genius Arthur Smith took the field.

Nick Sirianni doesn’t exhibit these tendencies. That’s one of the reasons why he’s one of the best coaches in the league. Avoiding blunders will take you far in the NFL. Going 8-1 in back-to-back seasons doesn’t happen by accident.

Honoring the Bernard Williams Era

The NFL finally cleared out the reserve lists, and the Eagles released Bernard Williams, who was suspended in 1995. Where were you in July of 1995? Were you even anywhere?

Only a handful of current Eagles players were alive when Williams was initially suspended. Every other player hadn’t even been born yet.

Here are some events that happened during Bernard Williams’ time on the reserve list:

-Kelly Green jerseys were retired and brought back as throwbacks.

-Brian Dawkins started his NFL career and was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

-Dawkins and Donovan McNabb both started their NFL careers and had their jerseys retired by the team.

-Numerous players started their NFL careers and were inducted into the Eagles Hall of Fame.

-The Jacksonville Jaguars, Carolina Panthers, and Houston Texans debuted.

-Coaches like Doug Pederson, Mike Tomlin, and Sean McVay had yet to coach a game of football at any level anywhere.

-Several coaches had yet to coach a game and reach the Super Bowl.

-Swoop was born.

-The Eagles won 17 playoff games, reached three Super Bowls, and won the Super Bowl.
