Now, let’s take a closer look at sophomore guard Ashlon Jackson:
Ashlon Jackson
Year: Sophomore
Height: 6-foot
Position: Guard
Last year’s stat line: 13.3 MPG, 3.2 PPG, 1.0 RPG, 0.9 APG
Game breakdown: Ashlon Jackson had an impressive freshman season, playing in all 33 games for Duke and living up to her title as a 2022 McDonald’s All-American. She was ranked 16th in her recruiting class and 3rd for her position. Her stats across all aspects of the game were excellent. As expected, she made significant contributions during the 2022-23 Blue Devil season, averaging 13.3 minutes per game and helping the team reach its first NCAA tournament appearance and first-round win under head coach Kara Lawson.
In Duke’s NCAA tournament victory against Iona, Jackson scored six points and provided one assist in 19 minutes. Throughout the regular season, she had noteworthy performances on multiple occasions. Her highest scoring game occurred on December 4 in a win against Richmond, where she scored 12 points in 19 minutes. She also contributed double digits in the previous game against Northwestern, scoring 10 points. Displaying her well-rounded athleticism and versatility, she recorded 12 steals and 10 blocks during the season, with two steals in three different games and three blocks against Florida State. Jackson primarily scores from the three-point line, with 20 of her 35 field goals coming from deep. Her 6-foot height allows her to make an impact on both ends of the court at the collegiate level.
Role on the team: After playing in every game during her freshman season and being one of Duke’s top recruits in 2022, Jackson is expected to receive more playing time in her sophomore year. While she initially made an impact coming off the bench, her experience and growth as a second-year player may earn her a spot in the starting lineup this season. She is particularly known for her exceptional shooting abilities and is likely to improve her scoring percentages and averages from her freshman year. With her energy, height, and overall skill set, Jackson will continue to make her presence felt and be a key contributor to Duke’s success.
Projected stats: 25.5 MPG, 8.6 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 1.3 APG
