Duke Recruiting: Jon Scheyer Is On A Possibly Unprecedented Tear

Following his departure from Georgia Tech, Josh Pastner found himself with an abundance of free time. However, being the industrious Dale Carnegie type, Pastner has channeled his excess freedom into podcasting!

Pastner is now a contributor to the Field of 68 podcast and has shared his thoughts on Jon Scheyer’s recruiting: “They have recruited better – and it’s nothing against Coach K – who’s maybe the greatest ever and maybe of any sport – Jon Scheyer has actually recruited, and Duke Basketball has recruited better in the last two years than they were even with Coach K as the head coach! It’s incredible.”

When you ponder historical recruiting prowess, who stands out as the best?

Dean Smith had Michael Jordan, James Worthy, and Sam Perkins on one team, not to mention Kenny Smith and Jordan a few years later, and the likes of Rasheed Wallace and Jerry Stackhouse in the 90s. John Wooden secured Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Bill Walton, along with numerous other phenomenal talents. John Calipari also had a strong recruiting track record at Kentucky.

Yet, despite these achievements, none compare to what Scheyer is achieving at the beginning of his career. No one comes close.

Wooden, Smith, and Calipari all took time to achieve their recruiting success, but Scheyer is already making waves.

What Scheyer is accomplishing at this early stage is truly unparalleled.
