Tyrese Proctor, a rising star of Duke basketball, suffered a devastating injury in the first two minutes of the Blue Devils’ ACC opener against Georgia Tech. The sophomore guard, who has been a standout player in the early part of the season, appeared to roll his left ankle while driving to the basket. Unable to put weight on his left ankle, Proctor was assisted off the court by teammates Stanley Borden and Neal Beogvich and did not return to the game.
“We’ll get an X-ray this weekend and we’ll see,” said Duke coach Jon Scheyer regarding Proctor’s condition. “But no update.”
Following Proctor’s injury, Georgia Tech capitalized on the setback and went on a 14-1 run to take an 11-point lead. Coach Scheyer described it as a “tough day” for the team, emphasizing the need to adapt to the loss of Proctor in real time.
As one of three captains for the No. 7 Blue Devils, Proctor has been a key player, averaging 11.7 points, 5.4 assists, and 3.4 rebounds per game this season. Despite the setback, Duke aims to bounce back in their upcoming game against Charlotte at Cameron Indoor Stadium on December 9.
