Dolphins’ Jerome Baker scores on pick-six vs. Eagles

PHILADELPHIA — The Miami Dolphins pulled even with the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night, thanks to a remarkable defensive play.

Dolphins cornerback Kader Kohou deflected quarterback Jalen Hurts’ pass, which ended up being intercepted by linebacker Jerome Baker and returned for a 21-yard touchdown, tying the game at 17-17.

Miami almost took the lead when Tua Tagovailoa threw a pass to Tyreek Hill, but Hill failed to make the catch. The Dolphins then failed to convert on fourth-and-3, giving the ball back to the Eagles on their own 21-yard line. The referees missed an apparent facemask penalty on the Eagles during the play.

Miami entered Week 7 without a turnover since Week 3. Baker’s interception was the Dolphins’ first pick-six since Xavien Howard intercepted Patriots quarterback Mac Jones in the final game of the 2021 season.

Although the Eagles are known for their “Brotherly Shove” play, they experienced another unstoppable move called “Tyreek Go Deep.”

Tagovailoa connected with Hill for a 27-yard touchdown late in the second quarter. This play stood out in an otherwise uneventful first half for the league’s top-ranked offense.

Hill evaded double coverage, sprinting past Eagles cornerback James Bradberry and safety Terrell Edmunds.

This touchdown marked Hill’s league-leading seventh receiving touchdown of the season. He has scored in all but one game.

The play wouldn’t have been possible without Tagovailoa’s 29-yard completion to Cedrick Wilson Jr. on a deep corner route. Wilson made an impressive catch, managing to keep both feet in bounds before falling.

Tagovailoa had a perfect 6-for-6 completion record on the drive, accumulating 86 yards and completing the touchdown pass to Hill.

However, Miami struggled in the first half, gaining only 113 total yards and having -7 rushing yards.
