Dodgers News: Lakers Legend Magic Johnson Gives Dodger Fans Hope for the NLDS

Since the Los Angeles Dodgers’ devastating loss to the San Diego Padres in the 2022 NLDS is still fresh in the minds of every Dodger fan, many of them are in a state of panic following the debacle against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday night.

If the NLDS were a single game, the Dodgers would be in serious trouble. However, it is a best-of-five series, and the Dodgers must win three out of the remaining four games to advance to the NLCS. Fortunately, they have proven their ability to come back from behind multiple times during the 2023 regular season. It’s important to note that many teams have lost the first game of a postseason series and still managed to win the entire series.

Magic Johnson, the Los Angeles Lakers legend and member of the Dodgers’ ownership group, offered some words of encouragement to Dodger fans by sharing a memory from his own career. He reminded them that even in 1985, his Showtime Lakers suffered a humiliating blowout loss to the Celtics in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, referred to as the Memorial Day massacre. Despite that defeat, they managed to come back and win the series in the end.

“I want to remind my Dodgers I’ve been there. In 1985 my Showtime Lakers got blown out by the Celtics in Game 1 famously known as the Memorial Day massacre. They beat us by 34 points but we still came back and won the Series!”

Dodger fans need to put both the 2022 NLDS against the Padres (where the Dodgers won the first game) and Saturday’s blowout loss behind them. The 2023 Dodgers have the ability to rebound from this setback. On Monday, the Dodgers will be starting their new ace, Bobby Miller, whose pitching style is completely different from Clayton Kershaw’s. If the offense can avoid falling behind by six runs early in the game, they have the potential to deliver a strong performance.
