Dodgers News: Kiké Hernandez’s Mindset Ahead of Game 3 Start Will Get You Fired Up

The Los Angeles Dodgers have named utility man Kiké Hernandez as a starter for Game 3 against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Hernandez, a veteran player known for his versatility, is familiar with the high-stakes nature of these must-win games.

“I’ve played in a lot of these, a lot of must-win games. So I kind of know what to expect. I’m ready. They brought me here to help them win games in situations like these. And they put me in the lineup and now it’s up to me to come through. … For me personally, the mentality should be win one, win today, because that’s all that matters. Today is the only thing that matters. And we wake up tomorrow and we do it all over again.”

Hernandez has had significant contributions in the Dodgers’ past World Series runs, including their 2020 championship win. He made headlines in 2017 with a three-homer game against the Chicago Cubs in the World Series, and he continued his clutch performances in the 2020 playoffs with a game-tying home run in a do-or-die Game 7 against the Atlanta Braves.

Even after leaving LA, Hernandez showcased his postseason prowess with the Boston Red Sox in their run to the 2021 ALCS. His offensive performance was one of the best in postseason history, with 41 total bases, 10 extra-base hits, and five home runs in just 11 games.

In Game 2 against the Diamondbacks, Hernandez made a pinch-hit appearance that resulted in one of the Dodgers’ two runs. Manager Dave Roberts has confidence in Hernandez’s ability to provide an offensive spark in crucial moments.
