Diamondbacks’ Brandon Pfaadt appears to read Bible before taking mound in Game 7 of NLCS

Before stepping onto the mound for the most important game of his career, Brandon Pfaadt revisited his origins.

As the starting pitcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 7 of the National League Championship Series, it’s only natural for him to feel some nerves.

In an effort to calm down, Pfaadt spent some time reading in the dugout just before taking the rubber at Citizens Bank Park.

Pfaadt seemed to be engrossed in reading the Bible just before the start of the game.

The 25-year-old attended Trinity High School, an all-boys Catholic school within the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Louisville. He then played college baseball at Bellarmine University, a private Catholic institution also located in Louisville.

The D-Backs selected him in the fifth round of the 2020 MLB Draft, and he made his debut on May 3 of this year.

During the regular season, he had a less-than-impressive 5.72 ERA, but in the postseason, he has exceeded expectations. While he allowed three earned runs in just 2.2 innings of work in the Wild Card Series against the Milwaukee Brewers, he has not conceded a run in 10.0 innings across two starts against the Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies. So far, he has a remarkable 2.13 ERA in his three starts leading up to Game 7.
