Introducing Film Fridays! Every Friday, we take a close look at recent Denver Nuggets’ games, lineups, or other film aspects to bring you unique content. Share your feedback in the comments or find me on Twitter.
About a month into the NBA season, the Denver Nuggets are tied with the Boston Celtics for the best record, 9-2. Despite the absence of Jamal Murray, Michael Porter Jr.’s performance has kept the team afloat.
Porter is averaging 16.3 points per game but his 3-point shooting has declined to 35.4%, a career-low. His defense and rebounding have shown improvements, although his 3-point effectiveness remains a concern.
Despite a better Defensive Box Plus/Minus, there’s a sense that Porter hasn’t reached his full potential. With a fully firing Porter, the Nuggets could reach a new level of dominance.
Shot Making
Porter’s ability to make shots is intriguing. His decision-making and timing add layers of complexity to his game. Whether he fully develops his back-to-the-basket game or not, his jump shot continues to dazzle.
Defensive End
Porter’s defense has shown clear improvements. His hustle and activity level have increased, becoming more consistent on both ends of the court.
While he remains one of the league’s best 3-point shooters, his night-to-night performance fluctuates. Consistency is the key for the Nuggets to contend for a championship this season.
