The RSM Classic at the Sea Island Club saw a dramatic first round completion after two rain suspensions and a third for darkness on Thursday. Denny McCarthy and Austin Eckroat tied for the lead at 7-under-par 65, both finishing strong in calm conditions and receptive greens. McCarthy closed out with a flurry, playing his last five holes at 5-under, while Eckroat birdied his last five holes with a bogey-free round. Eric Cole, Cameron Young, and Davis Thompson were tied for third at 6-under, all playing on the Seaside Course in the first round. The weekend field will play Saturday and Sunday at the Seaside Course after completing one round each on the Seaside and Plantation Courses.
In addition, Camilo Villegas is experiencing a resurgence in his game, showing signs that his game might be back to 2008 levels.
