DeMar DeRozan sinks to the bottom of critical shooting metric originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
Struggling with efficiency, DeMar DeRozan’s performance reflects the Chicago Bulls’ overall struggle.
Renowned for his midrange game, DeRozan’s performance this season is far below his usual standard. Despite averaging 21.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game through 15 games, his shooting splits of 44.3/35.1/81.3 are all below his career averages, except for his impressive 3-point percentage this season. However, his true shooting percentage ranks as the second-worst in the league for players averaging over 20 points per game, according to StatMuse.
This season, DeRozan’s true shooting percentage stands at 53.9%, nearly two points below his career average and significantly lower than his previous performances with the Bulls.
Unfamiliar with true shooting percentage? John Cragen explained it as an assessment of a player’s performance in terms of efficiency across all facets of shooting metrics.
Why DeRozan is struggling remains the central question.
After expressing his frustration following a recent loss, DeRozan emphasized the Bulls’ collective struggle and called for a change in their performance and mindset to turn their season around.
With a 5-12 record, the Bulls face a challenging position in the Eastern Conference and were eliminated from advancing to the NBA’s In-Season Tournament. DeRozan remains optimistic about the team’s potential but recognizes the need for a significant improvement in their overall performance.
