Following an extensive search, the Mets have found their new manager in Carlos Mendoza and officially introduced him to the public on Tuesday.
Mendoza is the 25th manager in Mets history, and president of baseball operations David Stearns discussed what made the Venezuela native the perfect fit for the organization at this time.
“We prioritized finding a manager that can not only impact and lead our team in the dugout but also shape an environment throughout our organization, and I firmly believe Carlos has the ability to do that,” Stearns said at the news conference.
Mendoza echoed many of Stearns’ sentiments regarding their partnership, saying he learned a lot from his time as the Yankees’ bench coach in terms of connecting with various people in the organization.
Stearns revealed that Mendoza’s vision and expectations for the Mets team were discussed, and they are on the same page that this team will compete in 2024. This comes after the Mets’ disappointing performance in the 2023 season, following a strong 101-win season.
Mendoza emphasized the importance of building a strong culture and trust within the team and is prepared for the challenges ahead. He expressed excitement about the team’s talent and is looking forward to the new chapter.
The Mets manager search included talks with several candidates, but Mendoza was ultimately chosen as the right fit for the job, and Stearns expressed his confidence in their ability to work together effectively.
