David Beckham says he supports Manchester United sale

Inter Miami co-owner and President David Beckham endorses a potential takeover of his original club Manchester United.

“There is currently no stability,” the longtime former Premier League midfielder expressed during an interview on CNBC’s “Squawk on the Street” that aired Thursday. “It’s the perfect time for someone to step in.”

Beckham also dismissed reports suggesting he would become an ambassador for Manchester United in a possible sale to Qatar’s Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani. Beckham previously served as a World Cup ambassador last year in a Qatar-related agreement.

“There have been no discussions at the moment. I have had a long-standing relationship with Qatar due to my involvement with PSG … but there are currently no discussions,” Beckham stated, referring to the French club Paris Saint-Germain, where he played towards the end of his career when the Qatar Sports Investments group purchased the team.

During the CNBC interview, Beckham also discussed his various other ventures, including his ongoing partnership with Authentic Brands CEO Jamie Salter. Authentic Studios, under Authentic Brands, was responsible for the creation of the recently released Netflix docuseries, “Beckham,” which documents Beckham’s journey to superstardom and his marriage to Victoria Beckham. In 2022, Authentic Brands acquired a majority stake in Beckham’s brand management firm, DB Ventures.

Beckham’s accomplishments at Manchester United are prominently featured in the documentary.

The club has faced a turbulent few years under the ownership of the American Glazer family, who acquired the Premier League club in 2005. The team went six years without winning a trophy before securing the English League Cup this year.

In November of last year, Manchester United announced that star player Cristiano Ronaldo would be leaving the team following an interview in which he criticized manager Erik ten Hag and the Glazer family. Ronaldo spent only one year with the club during his second stint there.

Currently, Manchester United is ranked 10th in the Premier League with a record of four wins and four losses.

Soccer club Inter Miami, of which Beckham is a part owner, made a groundbreaking deal with soccer superstar Lionel Messi earlier this year. Managing owner Jorge Mas stated in July that he expects the signing to double the soccer club’s revenues over the next year.
