Arizona Diamondbacks Set 2023 NL Championship Series Roster

The D-backs have made adjustments to their 26-man roster for the National League Championship Series against the Phillies. One notable addition is rookie right-hander Slade Cecconi, while infielder Jace Peterson has been left off the roster.

Arizona initially went with 12 pitchers and 14 position players for the NL Division Series, as they only needed three starting pitchers due to several off-days. However, with the NLCS being a best-of-seven series, the D-backs require four starters. Cecconi provides them with additional options, as he can be used in the bullpen or as a starter.

Cecconi, 24, started 23 games for Triple-A Reno this season, earning a 6.11 ERA. He also made seven appearances with the D-backs, posting a 4.33 ERA. According to D-backs manager Torey Lovullo, the team wanted to ensure they had enough coverage and length in the bullpen for the extended series.

On the other hand, Peterson was acquired from the A’s at the Trade Deadline. Throughout the season, he struggled at the plate, slashing .183/.276/.258 over 106 plate appearances. Although he was added to the NL Wild Card Series roster as a last-minute replacement due to an injury, he did not see any playing time. Peterson did make the NLDS roster but went 0-for-1.
