Wide receiver Martavis Bryant is making a comeback to football after last playing in 2018, and the Dallas Cowboys are giving him a shot by signing him to their practice squad, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.
A fourth-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Bryant was suspended multiple times for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. However, he has recently been reinstated by Commissioner Roger Goodell and is now set to join the Cowboys for a workout, as reported by NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero.
Jerry Jones and the Cowboys are taking a chance on Bryant, hoping he can showcase the same big-play ability he displayed in his early years with the Steelers. Standing at 6-foot-4, Bryant has proven to be a threat in the end zone.
Despite his suspensions and setbacks, Bryant has shown flashes of brilliance, especially during the 2015 season where he recorded 50 receptions for 765 yards and seven total touchdowns.
Bryant’s last stint with the Raiders in 2018 was unremarkable, but now at 31 years old, he’s looking to make a comeback, having played last summer for the Vegas Vipers of the XFL.
The Cowboys are taking a chance on Bryant’s potential, giving him a spot on the practice squad in hopes of witnessing a comeback story in the making.
