Coventry, Manchester, STVM, Springfield golfers set to compete in state tournament

The Division II State Golf Tournaments: Representing Greater Akron

This weekend, the Division II state golf tournaments will take place, and the Greater Akron area will be well-represented with teams competing on both the girls and boys sides. The Manchester boys team will be making their first-ever appearance at the state tournament, while the St. Vincent-St. Mary girls team will be returning for the second year in a row.

The boys state tournament will be held at NorthStar Golf Club in Sunbury, while the girls state tournament will be held at The Ohio State University Gray Course in Columbus. Golfers will begin teeing off at 9 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday.

Manchester’s Historic Journey to Boys State Tournament

Manchester secured their spot in the boys state tournament by finishing third in the district tournament at Windmill Lakes Golf Club in Ravenna with a score of 327. Senior Brady Johnson tied for 15th in the district tournament with a score of 79. Joining Johnson are seniors Evan Hausch and Logan Carr, junior Zach Smith, and sophomore Drew Mothersbaugh, who was named the PAC-7 Player of the Year. Coached by Mike Ankrom and Shawn Zavodney, the Panthers have shown great consistency and teamwork throughout the season.

Manchester also placed second in the sectional tournament at The Elms Country Club in North Lawrence with a score of 332. Johnson and Hausch had impressive performances in the sectional tournament as well, tying for 10th and 12th place, respectively. The team’s hard work and dedication, along with the support of Spring Hills Golf Club and Chippewa Golf Club, have played a significant role in their success.

Coventry’s Ryan Dinan Returns to Boys State Tournament

Coventry senior Ryan Dinan will be making his second consecutive appearance at the boys state tournament. Dinan finished second in the district tournament at Windmill Lakes with a score of 74 and tied for second in the sectional tournament at The Elms with a score of 75. Dinan has consistently performed well throughout the season, and his strong driving, chipping, and putting skills have contributed to his success. A Cleveland State University recruit, Dinan has had notable achievements, including winning Manchester’s Griffith Cup and Ravenna’s Yank Heisler Invitational.

Springfield’s Brady Hahn: A Clutch Player

Springfield senior Brady Hahn has secured a spot in the boys state tournament through his impressive playoff victories in the past two weeks. Hahn tied for fifth in the district tournament at Windmill Lakes with a score of 76 and tied for fourth in the sectional tournament at The Elms with the same score. His ability to perform under pressure has been evident as he has won playoffs in multiple postseason tournaments. Hahn’s perseverance and determination have been key to his success throughout the season.

St. Vincent-St. Mary Girls Golf: Led by Raygan Hoover

The St. Vincent-St. Mary girls team has qualified for the state tournament after an exceptional performance in the district tournament at Good Park Golf Course in Akron. They finished second with a score of 348, just four strokes behind the first-place team. Senior Raygan Hoover has been a standout player, tying for sixth in the district tournament with a score of 82 and placing third in the sectional tournament with an 87. The team’s strong start to the season, winning three of their first five tournaments, has set the tone for their success. Their victories include the Lady Irish Invitational, the Kent Roosevelt Lady Rough Rider Tournament, and the Springfield Invitational.

Orrville Senior Abby Ankenman Headed to Girls State Tournament

Orrville senior Abby Ankenman has secured her spot in the girls state tournament by winning medalist honors in both the district and sectional tournaments. Ankenman shot 73 in a playoff at the district tournament at Good Park and carded an 80 to win the sectional title at The Pines. Her consistent play and impressive scores have propelled her to this achievement.

As the Division II state golf tournaments approach, the Greater Akron area is proud to have these talented golfers representing their schools. Their hard work, dedication, and skill have brought them to this stage, and they will undoubtedly give their best performances at the state tournament.
