Cortland Football to Travel to Endicott for NCAA First Round Saturday

The Cortland football team, ranked 11th nationally in Division III, will travel to 14th-ranked Endicott College in Beverly, Mass., for the opening round of the 2023 NCAA Division III playoffs on Saturday, Nov. 18. The game is set to start at noon. >
 

 

Cortland (9-1) is one of the 32 teams competing in the tournament field. The Red Dragons secured an automatic bid following their victory in the Empire 8 conference, maintaining a perfect 6-0 record for the third consecutive season.

 

The winner of the upcoming game on Saturday will move on to the second round on Nov. 25 and will face the winner of the Susquehanna University (10-0) vs. Grove City College (10-0) match. The quarterfinals are scheduled for Dec. 2 with the semifinals on Dec. 9. The Division III national championship game, the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl, is set for Dec. 15 in Salem, Virginia.

 

Cortland, led by head coach Curt Fitzpatrick, is making its 12th NCAA playoff appearance and has set a school record with its third consecutive appearance. The Red Dragons have a strong historical playoff performance, having advanced to the national quarterfinals twice – once as part of a 16-team playoff field in 1988 and as part of a 32-team field in 2008.

 

Endicott, the opponents for Cortland, won its third straight Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) title with a 5-0 record. The Gulls will be hosting the NCAA first-round game, aiming to improve upon their past season record.
