Corey Perry is seeking help from mental health and substance abuse professionals following the termination of his contract with the Chicago Blackhawks due to “unacceptable” conduct and contract violations.
In an email statement to The Associated Press, Perry apologized for behavior he acknowledged as “inappropriate and wrong.” His longtime agent, Pat Morris, confirmed that Perry sent the statement.
The 38-year-old NHL veteran expressed hope to regain the trust of those who supported him throughout his career.
“I would like to sincerely apologize to the entire Chicago Blackhawks organization, including ownership, management, coaches, trainers, employees, and my teammates,” Perry said. “I would also like to apologize to my fans and my family. I am embarrassed and I have let you all down.”
Perry reiterated Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson’s statement that the situation did not involve teammates or their families and was a workplace matter that did not involve law enforcement.
