WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — Connor Hellebuyck was stellar in goal, stopping 18 of 20 shots, as the Jets secured a 4-2 victory over the St. Blues on Tuesday night.
Kyle Connor, Mason Appleton, and David Gustafsson also contributed with goals for the Jets, while Morgan Barrons sealed the win with an empty-netter in the final minutes.
St. Louis managed to find the back of the net with goals from Robert Thomas and Pavel Buchnevich.
This game marked the Jets’ first without head coach Rick Bowness, who took a leave of absence following his wife’s seizure on Sunday. Fortunately, she has been sent home and is recovering.
On the other end of the ice, Jordan Binnington made 26 saves on 29 shots for St. Louis.
With Binnington pulled for an extra attacker, Thomas cut the Jets’ lead to just one goal with 3:33 remaining in the game.
The Jets took control early in the second period, scoring two goals within 18 seconds. Gustafsson’s powerful shot, set up by Cole Perfetti, found the back of the net, followed by Appleton’s goal shortly after.
NOTES: The Jets announced during the first period that Rick’s wife is now home from the hospital and recovering. … Mark Scheifele entered the game with a five-game point streak, marking his best start to a season. … Josh Morrissey, with five assists, was tied for first among NHL defensemen in points before the game.
