Colorado continues fall down rankings

Ranked as high as No. 32 nationally during their unexpected 3-0 start, Colorado has seen a decline with four losses in five games, dropping them to No. 73 in the USA TODAY Sports NCAA Re-Rank 1-133.

The Buffaloes now hold a 4-4 record after their 28-16 loss to UCLA. Following their initial 3-0 start, Colorado has suffered defeats against Oregon, Southern California, Stanford, and UCLA, with a sole victory over Arizona State.

Their position is likely to decline further as they face a difficult home stretch of the regular season, closing out against Oregon State, Arizona, Washington State, and Utah. They need a split in these games to secure bowl eligibility.

On the other end of the rankings, the only noteworthy change came with Florida State and Washington swapping positions. Florida State rises to No. 4 after defeating Wake Forest, while Washington drops one spot to No. 5 after struggling against Stanford. This comes after Washington’s lackluster 15-7 win against Arizona State in the previous week.

These past two games have raised the question: Should Oregon, with one loss to Washington, be ranked ahead of undefeated Washington? While the eye-test argument favors the Ducks, on-field results carry weight, placing Oregon at No. 6 as the highest-ranked team with one loss.

Following Oregon at No. 6 is Oklahoma, dropping only one spot after their 38-33 loss to Kansas. The head-to-head win against No. 8 Texas complicates matters, keeping Oklahoma ahead of Texas, which stays ahead of No. 9 Alabama for the same reason.
