Colleges take notice of Hickman football star Brock Camp | Hickman High School

COLUMBIA − Hickman head football coach Cedric Alvis has been captivated by the presence of Brock Camp right from the start.

From the moment Camp walked into the weight room as an eighth-grader, Alvis couldn’t help but notice him. “You can’t teach 6-foot-6, 240 pounds,” Alvis remarked.

However, Alvis is not the only one who has recognized Camp’s potential. Prominent colleges such as Missouri, Wisconsin, Kansas State, and Nebraska have been actively recruiting him as a star tight end.

Despite being heavily recruited in football, Camp is also an outstanding basketball player, attracting interest from lower-level Division I schools for his skills on the court. He aspires to be a dual-sport athlete in college and relishes the opportunity to pursue both sports.

Having played football at Missouri State, Alvis imparts his experience onto Camp, emphasizing the uniqueness of this stage in his life and encouraging him to savor it. “I believe my role is to help him reach greater heights,” Alvis explained.

Camp views Alvis as a father figure who has played a pivotal role in his recruitment and personal growth. He appreciates how Alvis treats him like a collegiate and professional athlete, aligning with Camp’s aspirations.

Surprisingly, despite his imposing physique, Camp does not possess the stereotypical characteristics of a leader. Alvis reveals that Camp is actually an introvert, leading quietly by example. His teammate and best friend, An’Davantae Bussey, praises Camp’s low-key leadership, stating that his impact is widely recognized without him needing to say much.

While Camp has evolved into an exceptional football player, Alvis is most proud of his academic progress. Alvis acknowledges the notable transformation in Camp’s grades, particularly commending his stellar performance in the classroom.

With impressive stats of 32 catches, 451 yards, and seven touchdowns this season, Camp has garnered attention from multiple colleges during his breakout junior year. Despite the various options, his hometown school, Mizzou, holds a special place in his heart.

Camp expresses that being recruited by his hometown school feels like a dream come true. The prospect of donning a Mizzou jersey resonates deeply with him. His family’s strong affinity for Missouri adds to the allure, as he yearns to remain close to home. Ultimately, only time will unveil which college Camp will choose to further his athletic career.
