The game, which saw Cal lose 75-72 to UTEP, took a shocking turn when forward Fardaws Aimaq leapt into the stands after being called a “terrorist.”
A video of the incident quickly went viral on social media, showing Aimaq confronting the fan who had insulted him. The player, of Afghan origin, stood tall over the student and questioned him about his derogatory remarks, prompting an outpouring of support from users on X (formerly Twitter).
The response to the incident was mixed, with some condemning the player’s actions while others expressed understanding given the nature of the slur directed at him. The college has announced that it will handle the incident internally.
