Clay Travis, an author at OutKick, firmly holds the belief that a high school boys basketball team is capable of defeating a WNBA team. He is so confident in this assertion that he is willing to wager $1 million on it.
Recently, the Las Vegas Aces of the WNBA secured their second consecutive championship, solidifying their status as one of the league’s most outstanding teams in history. Shortly after this triumph, a clip from February resurfaced on Twitter featuring Travis claiming that a “good state championship-level” high school boys team would easily outperform the reigning WNBA champions.
Unsurprisingly, this clip has stirred up substantial backlash online, catching the attention of Chelsea Gray, a guard for the Aces.
Gray, a three-time champion, offered a succinct response to Travis via Twitter.
“Dumbass,” Gray tweeted on Wednesday.
Travis, undeterred by the criticism, replied to Gray’s tweet on Friday, remaining resolute in his belief that a high school team could defeat a professional women’s team.
“I’m willing to bet a million dollars,” Travis tweeted. “Your WNBA champion team versus a high school boys state champion team that I choose in 2024. You win, and you receive a million dollars from me. But if my team wins, you owe me a million, and I will donate it all to the boys’ high school team. Are you game?”
As a follow-up, Travis stated that this hypothetical matchup would become the “most-watched WNBA game of all time.”
This prediction comes shortly after news broke that the WNBA Finals between the Aces and the New York Liberty garnered the highest viewership in two decades, according to statistics.
