49ers running back Christian McCaffrey has officially made history once again, as he surpassed 49ers great Roger Craig for the most receptions by a running back in the first seven seasons of an NFL career, with a 2-yard catch against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium.
Notably, McCaffrey, surpassed Craig, for the most receptions by a running back through their first seven seasons in NFL history.
McCaffrey, the dynamic back responsible for landing himself in exceptional company with Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk, is recognized as one of the very few running backs in NFL history to achieve the impressive milestone of 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards in the same season, a benchmark that he shares with Craig.
In Sunday’s matchup with Tampa Bay, McCaffrey further extended his remarkable season totals, taking the lead in receiving touchdowns among running backs with his fifth score of the season and topping the position with a league-high 339 receiving yards entering Week 11. Additionally, he is also leading the NFL in rushing yards with 747 yards before Sunday’s game.
McCaffrey’s outstanding performance this season places him as a leading contender to become the first running back to finish a season at the top of the position in both rushing and receiving yards since 2010. He continues to solidify his place as a standout running back, producing Hall-of-Fame-worthy numbers for the 49ers.
