Chris Paul shows he belongs in Warriors’ closing lineup

In a game against the Kings, Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr decided to try out different lineups, resulting in varying degrees of success. However, two changes he made during their 116-115 win over the Kings appear to be part of the regular season plan: Chris Paul starting on the bench and finishing on the court.

Paul’s performance in the game, with 13 points, nine assists, and six rebounds, showcased his talent and value to the team. While he is still learning Kerr’s offensive system, his ability to manage the end of games was evident in the fourth quarter.

When Paul entered the game with 5:37 remaining and the team trailing by 10 points, the Warriors made a comeback and outscored the Kings. Paul’s contributions included a 3-pointer to reduce the deficit to eight, followed by an assist to Stephen Curry for another 3-pointer, bringing the margin down to two points.

Paul’s partnership with Curry on the court was praised by his teammates, with Dario Sarić describing their execution as “amazing.” Kerr also highlighted Paul’s ability to improve Curry’s off-ball movement and praised his experience and performance in clutch moments.

While Kerr’s experimental lineups had mixed results earlier in the game, Paul’s late-game contributions solidified his place in the closing lineup. The team recognizes the importance of having him on the court when the game is on the line.
