Case has disappointing overtime loss to Indian Trail in SEC finale

Anton Graham, the football coach of Case High School, was extremely disappointed after their loss to Kenosha Indian Trail in a Southeast Conference game. Despite their mistakes, Case finished the season with a 6-3 overall record and 4-3 in SEC play, securing a spot in the WIAA Division 1 playoffs. This is the team’s first six-victory season since 1990 and their first winning traditional fall season since 1993. Graham emphasized the need to eliminate mistakes, both in coaching and playing, as they head into the playoffs.

One critical mistake occurred in the third quarter when Case was leading 7-0. Indian Trail managed to score a 75-yard touchdown run after escaping from four Case defenders. Although Case had some positives, such as a touchdown interception and a lead in the fourth quarter, Indian Trail tied the game at 14-14 with a touchdown pass. The game went into overtime, and Indian Trail ultimately won after Case failed to convert on fourth down.

Graham praised Michael King Jr., who had a great game with 78 yards rushing, and Kameron Burns for their performances. Burns, playing both ways for the first time this season, had a standout game on defense and played right tackle on offense due to injuries. However, Graham was disappointed with the performance of his offense, particularly the passing game. He stressed the need to improve and figure out what they are doing wrong.

Looking ahead to the playoffs, the Eagles will make good use of the extra day of practice to address their weaknesses. Despite the loss, Graham is proud of his team’s accomplishments and believes they have the potential to do better in the playoffs.

In another game, Waterford defeated Beloit Memorial in a Southern Lakes Conference game. The game was rescheduled due to poor weather conditions. Waterford’s defense did a good job containing Beloit Memorial’s leading rusher, James Ford. Sophomore quarterback Caiden Dessart and senior running back Sutton Keller led the way for Waterford, with Dessart contributing three touchdowns and Keller rushing for 102 yards and a touchdown.

In a Midwest Classic Conference finale, St. Francis secured a playoff spot with a win against Catholic Central. Despite their loss, Catholic Central showed perseverance and determination in the second half. However, their playoff fate remains uncertain as the brackets will be announced by the WIAA soon.

Overall, it has been an eventful week in high school football with teams making a final push for the playoffs.
