Cameron Smith’s emotional reaction to nine-stroke miss at Australian PGA Championship

Cameron Smith’s participation in this week’s Australian PGA Championship was crucial for his chances of qualifying for the next year’s Olympic Games in Paris.

Playing on the LIV Golf circuit has seen Smith’s Official World Golf Rankings drop, making it even more important for him to perform well in Brisbane this week and then at the Australian Open next week in Sydney.

Unfortunately, the reigning champion did not meet the expectations in Brisbane, missing the cut for the PGA by nine strokes on Friday with a disappointing 7-over-par 78.

Smith’s current No. 18 position in the OWGR is a far cry from his former No. 2 spot. The emotional disappointment was evident as he expressed how unacceptable his performance was.

Despite his struggle, fellow golfer Min Woo Lee ended the day at the top of the leaderboard, leaving Smith feeling frustrated and upset.

Adam Scott, on the other hand, had a standout performance, firing a 65 to tie for the day’s best round and sit just a stroke behind Lee at 11 under for the tournament’s midpoint.

“It’s always nice to have a bogey-free round, I probably haven’t had many of them this year,” Scott said, reflecting on his strong performance. “I feel like my swing from the tee to the green is feeling better than it has for a while and that’s a nice thing for me.”
