Bulls’ Nike NBA City Edition uniforms pay tribute to Chicago Stadium originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
Friday night at the United Center will not only be the Chicago Bulls’ debut game for the NBA’s new In-Season Tournament, but it will also feature a creatively designed court.
For the first time, the Bulls will proudly don their Nike NBA City Edition uniforms, which pay homage to the iconic Chicago Stadium that once stood where the United Center now resides.
The legendary “Madhouse on Madison” was home to the Bulls’ first three-peat teams. The special details on Friday’s uniforms include the parallel “Chicago” on the jersey, mirroring the signage outside Chicago Stadium, and the two parallel stripes on the shorts, representing the four-corner window patterning from the old barn.
Initially opened in 1929, the Chicago Stadium hosted various events, from championship boxing matches to political conventions. After the opening of the United Center in August 1994, the building was demolished in 1995.
The jersey also features the phrase “Madhouse on Madison,” a nickname given to the stadium due to its architectural design that created deafening noise levels, along with its famous pipe organ.
The Bulls, who first played at the Chicago Stadium in their second season in 1967, will also don these uniforms for In-Season Tournament games on November 17 against the Orlando Magic and November 28 against the Boston Celtics.
