Buccaneers’ Mike Evans Nears 10th Consecutive 1,000-Yard Season

Over the past decade, Evans has displayed remarkable consistency amid numerous coaching changes, quarterback transitions, and shifts in play-callers.

“One of the things I’ve learned about Mike during the offseason is that he’s a true competitor,” remarked first-year offensive coordinator Dave Canales. “Whether it’s cards, darts, pool, or basketball, he excels in every game. This carries over to his style of play, as he consistently makes ordinary plays look exceptional.”

It might be a bit early to predict Evans’ inevitable crossing of the 1,000-yard mark, but a 150-yard performance against the Carolina Panthers wouldn’t be surprising for one of the sport’s greatest players.

Evans has achieved 150-plus receiving yards in a game 12 times in his career, tied for the third-most such games since 2014, behind Julio Jones and Tyreek Hill. His exceptional performances include a 207-yard game with three touchdowns in the last Panthers-Bucs matchup. He has surpassed the 100-yard mark twice this season, with standout games in Week 2 against Chicago and in a win over Tennessee in Week 11.

When asked if Evans is the best wideout he’s ever coached, Canales, who spent 13 seasons in Seattle, exclaimed, “I think this guy is a first-ballot Hall of Famer. The way that he’s able to find access and get open in any scenario, I would have to give it to Mike. This is a guy who kind of puts it all together, and he’s six-five with that length and we’ve seen in games where he can flat out run by guys still at this point. He really does have it all.”
