Bubba Jenkins Rejects Catchweight Bout after Chris Wade’s Weight Miss at 2023 PFL Championship

During the Wednesday media day for the upcoming 2023 PFL Championship event, Bubba Jenkins conveyed one clear message: his dislike for Chris Wade, and his refusal to reconcile with him.

Jenkins emphasized that the outcome of the trilogy – currently tied at 1-1 – won’t alter their strained relationship, ruling out any possibility of a friendly handshake or warm wishes.

Wade (23-10) was found to be 2.4 pounds over the non-title limit for the featherweight matchup on prelims at Thursday’s weigh-in, weighing in at 148.4 pounds. Jenkins (21-7) declined a catchweight fight and a percentage of Wade’s purse for the weight violation, thus, will serve as a featherweight alternate for Friday’s $1 million championship bout between Jesus Pinedo and Gabriel Braga.

PFL officials confirmed the fight’s cancellation on Thursday, with the 2023 PFL Championship proceeding with four prelims, which includes an amateur bout.

Jenkins and Wade’s initial fight took place in August 2021 during the featherweight semifinals, where Wade emerged victorious by unanimous decision. They faced off again in April, and Jenkins claimed a unanimous decision victory.
