DORAL, Fla. — Anirban Lahiri showcased his golfing prowess by shooting an impressive 7-under 65, while Bryson DeChambeau entertained the spectators with his remarkable performance on the back nine of the Blue Monster. Their exceptional efforts led the Crushers to secure a 2-shot victory over the RangeGoats in the highly anticipated LIV Golf team championship held at Trump Doral.
In this thrilling event, the scores from all four players on each team played a crucial role in determining the ultimate winner. The Crushers dominated the back nine, maintaining a comfortable 4-shot lead as they approached the 18th hole.
DeChambeau showcased his exceptional skills by recording only one par on the back nine, shooting an impressive 67. Accompanying him were Charles Howell III with a solid score of 72 and Paul Casey with a respectable 73.
On the other hand, Bubba Watson’s impressive birdie on the 18th hole, earning him a score of 67, proved to be a highlight for the RangeGoats. Talor Gooch and Thomas Pieters also performed admirably, both delivering scores of 70, while Harold Varner III contributed a 72.
The RangeGoats were in close pursuit, trailing by just 2 shots, until Gooch’s unfortunate tee shot on the 18th landed in the water, resulting in a bogey. This setback solidified the Crushers’ position as the favorites to claim victory. DeChambeau’s most memorable moment came on the reachable 16th, where he executed a remarkable birdie by hitting a long and left shot near the second green. With a high wedge, he skillfully soared over a concession area and landed his ball approximately 18 feet away from the hole, confidently sinking the putt.
Lahiri delivered a flawless performance, shooting the lowest round among all the teams competing for the championship title.
“I was filled with excitement and determination,” exclaimed Lahiri. “After a few disappointing Sundays, I was determined not to let my team down today.”
Meanwhile, the defending champions, 4 Aces, faced an uphill battle throughout the tournament. Dustin Johnson concluded the championship with a score of 75, and the only player on their team to break 70 was Peter Uihlein, who shot a respectable 69. With this underwhelming performance, the 4 Aces finished last among the four competing teams. Torque secured the third position.
The Crushers triumphed, winning a substantial $14 million from the $50 million purse. Out of this amount, 60% will be awarded to the team, while the remaining funds will be divided among the players, resulting in a remarkable payout of $1.4 million per player.
The remaining eight teams, which were eliminated during the quarterfinals and semifinals of the match play, participated in two separate tiers to determine their final rankings.
