Bryson DeChambeau drops ‘majors’ slander after LIV Golf team title

The 2023 LIV Golf season has concluded.

Bryson DeChambeau’s Crusher GC team emerged as the champions of the team championship in Miami. They clinched victory in the team event by a two-stroke margin with an impressive collective score of 11-under, surpassing the RangeGoats who secured second place.

Anirban Lahiri led the team with a remarkable bogey-free round of 7-under 65, including five birdies and an eagle.

DeChambeau finished with the second-lowest score of 5-under 67, recording eight birdies and three bogeys. His crucial bogey putt on the 18th secured the victory and sparked an exuberant celebration.

As the excitement subsided, DeChambeau made a bold statement.

“Winning as a team holds greater significance than individual achievements,” DeChambeau expressed. “While majors are prestigious, they involve a team effort. I am fortunate to have my team, but seeing the Crushers dominating the first full season is truly special.”

He added, “We have now become a part of history, and I couldn’t be prouder of my teammates. This victory certainly eases the disappointment from last week.”

Completing the winning team’s scores were Charles Howell III, who finished with an even par 72, and Paul Casey, who carded a 1-over 73.

DeChambeau’s team selection based on experience proved to be a winning strategy, making them the inaugural full LIV Golf season champions.

“In a team, you want consistent players who deliver day in and day out,” DeChambeau emphasized. “You don’t want players who fluctuate between exceptional and mediocre. I couldn’t have asked for a better group of guys.”

DeChambeau had two main reasons for appreciating his team so much.

“Firstly, they possess wisdom beyond my years, and I wanted to learn from them,” DeChambeau revealed. “Secondly, they are committed to improvement and the team’s success. These qualities are essential for triumph in the team format and at LIV Golf, and we demonstrated that today.”

The Crushers secured a bye into the semifinals by finishing among the top four teams. In their first match against the Cleeks, DeChambeau defeated fellow captain Martin Kaymer by 4 & 3, while Casey triumphed 6 & 5 over Richard Bland, earning them the necessary two points to advance.

The RangeGoats claimed the runner-up position at 9-under, led by captain Bubba Watson’s impressive 5-under 67. Joaquin Niemann’s outstanding 6-under 66 helped his Torque GC team secure third place with a collective score of 6-under. Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces rounded out the top four with an even-par finish.

Now, most of LIV Golf will enter a five-month offseason. An early December promotional tournament will determine whether the four relegated players can regain their spots in the league or if other competitors will take their place.
